U.S. Will Veto Abortion Rights

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris answers questions from reporters on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. On May 11, the U.S. Senate rejected a bill aimed at protecting women's abortion rights by 51 votes against and 49 votes in favor. All 50 Republicans and one Democrat voted against it. The bill, known as the Women's Health Protection Act, would require "allowing women to have legal abortions within 24 weeks of pregnancy" into U.S. federal law, preventing states from enacting strict abortion bans. The latest poll shows that 61% of American adults believe that women should have the right to legal abortion.
